Paediatric & Young Persons Service

(Aged between 0-17yrs)

Over winter there is usually an increased demand for health services which often results in a peak in Urgent Care and A&E attendances. In order to manage this demand and provide increased capacity, an acknowledgement that in some cases conditions can be best treated in a primary care (GP Practice) setting is essential.

Analysis of attendances at A&E over the 2013/14 winter period (October – March) at the three hospital Trusts local to Merton CCG shows that approximately 28% of attendances by Merton CCG patients were for people aged (0-17 inclusive) especially on a Monday and Friday.

In light of the high proportion of paediatric attendances at A&E over the 2013/14 winter period, the practice will be providing additional appointments to support children and parents over the 2014/15 winter period, and thereby alleviate the pressure on local A&E services.

This service will take the form of a Doctor-Led Winter Paediatric & Young persons Service at Colliers Wood Surgery between 10.30 – 1200 Monday and Friday for children under the age of 17, between November 2014 and April 2015 (inclusive).
